1 of the 3 systems im currently figuring out will primarily be for gaming, and after reading the TH mother of all cpu charts, im pretty well decided on the AMD64 4k SD as well, nice pick there.
One thing confused me : Samsung SpinPoint P120S 250GB SATA2 8MB 7200RPM NCQ I couldnt find it at Newegg (not that they have EVRYTHING, but for comparisons theyre great cause theyre prices are good and they do carry ALOT) and as i looked at what you listed, P120 would normally indicate a 120 gb drive, not 250. Someone suggested to me the Maxtor and ive been hard pressed to find better as well as more cost efficient. 2nd lowest seek time outside of SCSI that i found. Check it out if you want.
If you want-read the thread Dell VS Build my own --people gave me a ton of great advice there, as well as links to suggested products.
ok, but tagan isn't that bad is it? it's european (i think) and costs like $150. so it has to be good
Tagan is good....but you can have that quality cheaper if you want. It's a solid brand but you dont HAVE to spend that much. Your call.

moving on, should i opt for 2gb of ram? or a faster cpu?
Faster cpu will give you better performance....money should be spent in this order for games....gpu, cpu, ram. 2GB of ram is nice, but it will give you a 1-3% increase and sometimes none. using that same $80-$100 you can go up one maybe two cpu levels (depending on where you start...lol) and that could give you as much as 15% and at the very least 5%.
the 5% min for cpu beats the 3% max for ram....see my point?
