I am having trouble installing an HP DLT 40/80 internal drive on NT4 server,
for some reason, the system will not recognise the drive exists even though
it is detected during start-up.

Any clues?

startup is the scsi bios, not nt, you probably have to load some kind of
driver for it.

Do you use a separate controller card for the tape drive? The reason I
ask is because I had to install a Quantum SDLT 320 onto a Windows NT
Server. The server had a separate SCSI card with the tape drive
attached to it. The system would boot up and the card would be
recognized by the system yet not started by the operating system. The
drivers were properly installed too. At first I thought it could be
because of faulty cabling leading it to have signal loss. After
replacing the cable I found that this was not the case. It turned out
that the SCSI card was going bad. That's my experience with a similar
situation.
