any help or documentation on upgrading a stand alone nt 4 service pack6 to
stand alone 2003 standard edition.

I am not sure if the "standard" version will upgrade; however here are couple
of links I found when I was looking.
I have yet to try an upgrade yet and I have "standard" edition.
