Sata II

My mainboard says it supports Sata, does it also support Sata II or would it take another mobo to do this? I guess im not sure if it takes another mobo to handle sata II or another controller. I have a MSI 661FM3-L. Thanks

Go to MSI's website and check. SATAII is relatively new.

Yes I know to check the site it says is sata compatable. I am unaware as if sata II will work on an sata board.

It is backward compatable. SATA boards run SATAII drives.

Does it run at sata2 speeds then or is it limited to sata 150mb/sec?

No current drives even run close to at SATA 1 speeds.

So between a maxtor diamond 10 plus and a western digi 250 gb 16mb sata 2 HD. What would you go with?

The cheapest of the 2. If you get a SATA2, then look at the drive for a SATA1 compatibility jumper. While some SATA1 controller can use SATA2 drives right on, some other don't or have problem with them. It is all about how the connection is negociated between the HDD and controller. It is not the same for SATA1 and 2.
