They call it THEIR paper launch of ATi hardware since they reviewed it before expected, but it's a very revealing review, and shows some very interesting results.
Read about this slip up of the launching of the review (Customs once again messing with our friends south of the border, like they did with Casual Cat's R9600P);
Take note in the review that the SLi GF7800GT outperforms the GF7800GTX-512 in most benchmarks, and actually consume 1W less power at idle and only 11 watts more power under load. Considering the ridiculous pricing and shortage of the GTX-512, this may be finally a good reason to buy SLi, of course that's only for this very limited time period when the GTX-512 is rarer than a Volari Duo V8 and thus way overpriced. The single card G71 or R580 should change that in just a few weeks.
This review is also one of the few to use truely high resolutions like it should be done with these cards (who cares about 1024x768 + 1280x1024 with and without AA? 1024x768 without OK that shows system limitations, but for these cards, especially the 512MB cards and the SLi/Xfire setups stopping at 16x12 with 4XAA/16XAF is like doing a review of a supercar and then only showing performance from 0 to 70 and turning on the speed governor.
Spitfire may want to check this out for the Buyer's guide. Best SLi or Xfire benchmarks I've seen.
I wish I had more time to read & post (sto0opid Onion meeting tonight! :x )
The x1800XT (in crossfire mode) does a good job holding it's own in all the benches. Though, on a price/performance basis nVidia owns.
The cheapest x1800XT Crossfire edition can be found for $530 while the cheapest 7800GTX can be found for $450. If you're planning on SLi/Crossfire... that's a $160 difference in price for identical (or better) performance by the 7800GTX.
The only thing the crossfire x1800XT's really owned in was 3DMark2005... which as we all know is pretty much useless in terms of real world gaming (and future IMO).
Just tried it... gave me a general error in posting. Perhaps the higher-ups were afraid the mods might u-nionize and demand triple what they're paid now...
It's got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, though... I mean come on. You'll replace the f-bomb with [-peep-], but if you try to include the word uni0n, your post won't work at all? If it's a bug, fine... but if it's been consciously done... then someone should get a smack upside the head.
