Kind of an odd title, I know, but here I bring up a question I am sure has been on many minds. the WD Raptor from what I have seen is still the fastest mainstream HD on the market, yet its age is kind of starting to show. with the advent of NCQ and SATA II, have there been any words on a newer faster drive? or dare I ask, is there a SATA drive that matches-exceeds the raptors raw speed? capacity be darned just as long as it holds what I need.

I am aware of the RAM drives but volatle storage just doesnt mix imho...

The newer 74GB Raptor's supports NCQ. But not SATAII.

EDIT: i take that back, they don't support NCQ. They support TCQ which apparently is very similar.

I do not know of any SATA/IDE HDD's faster than the Raptor. I just checked... there are none. :)

The raptor is still the king I wish they would make them bigger if you want even more speed get two raptors and use raid 0.

Got 2 36gigs (RAID 0) that I have had since release, couldnt justify the cost of the 74gigs just yet. Am hoping the next revolution of raptors will be a little more than an extra platter and TCQ, heh.
