I am purchasing a dell windows media center desktop that I am going to hook up to my 36" sony tv with a media extender via wired ethernet. Then from the extender I am going to use s video to my tv and optical audio to my stereo reciever. My question is I have a choice of three video cards : Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 , or 128MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X300 SE HyperMemory for $50 more, or 256MB PCI Express™ x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory for $90 more.
I do not do any gaming, I just want to be able to use normal applications, but want to have a good tv signal to my sony tv. Does the card play a big roll in what I transfer to the tv or is it only for things that run from the monitor at the cpu?
If you don´t do any gaming then the ati 300 se for 50 extra bucks will be enough. Maybe the integrated Intel will be enough but then iy uses your RAM-memory and the external 300 se doesn´t.
well the radeon hypermemory uses system ram as well but i think it uses less of it. i would still go for it on the offchance that a game may appear out of nowhere and have to be played i haven't a clue as to what difference the card would play in this scenario but i would imagine it would support a faster refresh rate or something of the like
sounds like you would do better with an ati all in wonder card.
9600xt seems to be a good price performance ratio unless you are into the latest and greatest mega intensive games.
