I use the Zalman solid fanless thing. It's just a big blue aluminum block. Fits and works great, no extra noise. Even better, this thing dropped my temps. Idle from 45C to 41C and full load from 77C to 71C. Good times! I recommend it, but installing it was a bear. Good luck :)

A friend of mine brought over his x800 ATI Radeon. He said it was a good card, but the fan made a horrible grinding sound. I tried to run the card without the fan, and it was running dangerously hot.

So we took apart the entire fan assembly and applied some 10W-30 motor oil onto all of the interior compression rings and springs, also along the base of the spindle. We put it back together, and now the thing purrs like a kitten. It isn't a task for the faint of heart, but the card performs as well as it was originally intended. (for example, I can play Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 with very high graphics settings and no lag)

Just one possible solution for those fellow techs who like to salvage a good older system...
