I am posting this message in the hope that it will be useful to others.
I have had troubles installing the HP LaserJet 4200 on Windows XP
computers in a Windows NT 4 network. At first I thought it's a problem
with security or the local policies. Finally I discovered that I forgot
to install the XP drivers on the NT 4 server. :-o
I tried to install the XP drivers from an XP machine to the server using
the procedure described by e.g. newsgroup article [1] (see reference
below). Windows failed.
After reading newsgroup article [2], I finally found that the printer
driver names for NT/2000 and 2000/XP dont match in the INF files. I went
to the INF file for the XP PCL6 driver (hpc4200c.inf) and changed all:
"HP LaserJet 4200 PCL 6"
to:
"HP LaserJet 4200 PCL6" (last whitespace removed)
This will make the NT and XP driver names identical.
