I am trying to install a Celeron D 341 onto an Asrock socket 775 motherboard. However, the Intel cooler stands too proud of the mobo for the four clips to be latched. It's as if the CPU/socket is too high. Any ideas please?

Make sure the retainer is fully open. Some preasure is required to attatch the clips.
It is better to put the cpu, and hsf onto the mobo, while the board is sitting flat on a phone book, or piece of wood.

Thank's. Just as a check I find:
- distance motherboard to underside cooler is 5mm
- distance motherboard to top of cpu is 6-7mm
- cpu sits 0.5mm proud of socket

I can get 2 or maybe 3 cooler pins clicked but getting all of them would cause excessive bowing of the motherboard.

Are you sure that the CPU is properly installed, and not 90 or 180 degrees off the right way..because it looks to me that there is one side of the CPU that is not fully inserted and not // to the board surface.
