USB External Hard Drive enclosure loses connection

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone has heard of this issue or know if there's a fix for it. Here we go:

I bought an external USB 2.0/Firewire hard drive enclosure. I put a 120GB Maxtor in it. When I connect it to the USB OR Firewire port, windows see's the hard drive but doesn't mount it in My Computer. No big deal, I just go into Administrative Tools -----> Computer Management ------> Disk Management. In disk management, WinXP Pro see's the drive but it has a red circle w/ a white line across "Disk 2" As seen here:

So, i right click on the drive and click "reactivate disk" as seen here:

And then "boom!" it's in mounted and in my computer. The drive works fine.

Now, the problem I'm having is the drive disappears after like 2hrs of connection. And everytime it disappears I have to reboot Windows to see it in Disk Management again. Then I have to go through the whole "reactivate" disk crap again.

Anyone know how to fix this? Or how to keep it connected?

Couple things: it's NTFS formatted. I've had this problem on 2 completely hard drive enclosures with 2 completely different drives... so it's very unlikely that it's a hardware issue. I'm thinking it's either a WinXP issue or a formatting issue.

Any help with this would be much appreciated! Thanks,
