i'm helping my friend build a computer and i'm wondering what kind of psu i need

AMD Athlon 3500
GigaByte GA-K8N51GMF-9
Lite-On SHW-1635S SHW-1635S
Kingston 1GB PC3200
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus9 80GB Hard Drive
[no graphics card nor sound card, he's going to use the onboard stuff :D]

the current case supplies 300w but i'm not sure if that's adequate enough

thanks

If that 300w is a high quality one, then it may be enough (if it came with a case it's probably a cruddy one however). If I was getting a new PSU I'd want 350w or so from a high quality mfg. Fortron, Antec, Enermax, etc.

here is my 2cents worth right here. First Get rid of that stock 300w ps. It is more than likely a generic one that will last him if he is lucky a year at most.
Now, with that being said here is what I think you should get for him.

510W PS

this is rather Pricey, but believe me when I say that in the long run he will thank you for it, and this PS will have a 5yr warranty attached to it
