ok let me just run breif on what i got in my pc and i`ll tell you what i wanted to do

Athlon 2800xp
1gb 333mhz ddr ram
256mb Radeon 9600xt

Thing is this ... i was going to fo for an Athlon Sempron 64 bit 3100xp, but i was told don`t even bother with them as they don`t run as a true 64bit cpu so i was going to get a new gfx instead but now i`ve ran into a brick wall ... loads of people telling not to get this card or that card.

So i thought i`d ask the pros on this board about it here`s what i`m looking at (links below) plz tell me if they are better than the card i have and how much better they are.

If you can tell me another card to get that`s better than my card that would also be a bonus .. thanks for all your help in advance

Since both cards offer nearly identical performance, get the x800GTO. A similar 6600GT heatpipe card was reviewed on this site and it got HOT... the temp reached 92C!!! And you can't OC a fanless card that well.

Either way, you'll see a huge performance increase over that 9600XT with both cards.

i agree... and the GTO offers better performance in some cases as well...

well sadly i`ve had to change my mind as the x800 i was looking at was out of stock and i found a better 6600 series card or at least i think i have if anyone can look for me that would be great.

Now i looked on the giga-byte site and it claimed that this card i have found has a core clock of 500Mhz and a Memory Clock of 1120mzh which i thought was very very high but it only has 128mb which for me doesn`t seem to much when you think i`ve been using 256mb on my card anyways take a look and tell me what you think

6600GT, Despite having 128MB RAM, is much faster than the 9600XT - especially at higher resolutions..

I'm running the AGP 8x Gigabyte card and I'm very impressed with the performance increase over my old Radeon 9600.
My 6600's clocked at 500 MHz Core & 1000 MHz Memory. I've run it safely at 550 / 1100 with no artifacting or anything... I'm sure there's a lot more to come from this card with the right cooling - just too lazy to play with it. :)

Grab the best AMD Socket 939 64bit CPU you can afford a motherboard based on the nForce4 chipset and one or two (SLI) decent GeForce 6600's and you'll be fine :-)
