NT4 VPN Access Denied

NT4 Server with SP6a with client on Win98SE (DUN1.4)
The client can create the VPN connection, logon to the
domain and have the password validated (through a NetGear
firewall with PPTP, L2TP and IPSEC all allowed). The
client can see all the resources on the NT server and can
access those with folder security set to Everyone.
However trying to access a restricted folder gives
a 'Folder not accessable, Access Denied" message. The
folder has security set for the user to gain access and
logging the user on locally works fine.
Have I missed a trick?
Many thanks
