XFX 7800 GT Dead?

I just installed a 7800 GT bought brand new; it is replacing a 6200. Hardware installed without problems. Computer booted up with perfect image. Windows XP booted up and I installed nvidias 81.95, which went well. PC booted up again with no problems. I then went to display properties and change resolution to 1024x768 and refresh to 70hz; no problems here. To this point my PC was on for about 5 minutes. Every fan is running. I then proceed to check other settings and while I was LOOKING at the core temperature (which was 54) my screen went blank and the PC froze. I reseted and had to uninstall the drivers in safety mode but now the image is always corrupted, even outside XP (BIOS, DOS....).

I installed my old 6200 and everything is working. Any ideas?

P4 LGA775 3.4 (no OC), 1 GB DDR2 (no OC), Seagate 120 SATA HD, Intel 915PBL Mobo with latest BIOS, 450 PSU
