Hello I just bought a new athlon 64 s939 San Diego 3700+ and i was wondering if the stock heatsink/fan are okay if I want to overclock it a bit...

Also, I know that the 3700+ as the same core as Fx-55 cpu and it comes with a thermal pad... is the thermal pad good or I MUST get arctic silver 5 thermal grease??

thx for the help...

An duh, im looking to OC the cpu to 2.6ghz with my DFi SLI-Dr expert mobo and 1gb of ocz ram... will it be stable with the stock cooling stuff?

:D would be nice to get quick responses!

3700+ runs at 2.2, so getting to 2.6 should be doable on the stock HS. Depending on luck (well, not so much luck but whether you got a better or poorer chip), you may do it with the stock pad. AS5 is better than the stock pad, but I'd say give the stock pad a try, see how it does and replace it only if you need to.

if u're concerned about heat issues then i recommend upgrading the HS, since i've tried AS5 on my 3000+@2.4GHz and i saw no difference at all !

My old clawhammer 3700+ hits over 2.7ghz without any issue so i'm sure you'll hit 2.6 or higher fairly easily. Enjoy you new chip.
