OverClocking in small Steps??

If your board is capable of 250mhz DDR, why is it some boards require you to increase in small steps verses just setting the correct timings and speed, like if you RMA'd an identical board.

What is it to cause this memory of previous overclock, that allows you to increase in small steps, but not big ones?

This sounds funny to me, since I do not know what it is in the BIOS that is remembering the last 5mhz bump, thus allowing another bump... But will not let you go straight to the desired overclock????

Ummm... what board are you using? I've never had a board that forces me to overclock in any particular steps...

Are you using overclock software or something like that? If so, I would assume they are trying to detect early stages of instability so you don't get into a complete no-boot scenario where you must clear the BIOS in order to get the computer to boot again.
