Thermal compound question

hey guys, im changing the motherboard for my friend since his get messed, he has an 3.0 lga 775 intel p4, what would be the most ghettoest way to clean thermal greese off? by ghetto i mean home things, i can go pick up some rubbing alchohol i guess, and should i clean it while its in the socket or what?

Most of the "sniffing" solvents will get the job done. You may have to use a little elbow grease to get the residue off. Not really recommended though. A bottle of 70% alcohol is cheap, so go that route. Then you can get real ghetto, mix it with orange pop and go blind.
Dont do any cleaning on the mobo, as some crud will get onto the board, and cause problems latter.

I reccomend you use nothig other that Water and Ethanol or soap. Acetone or Isopropanole for instance will effectively dissolve any plastic they come in contact with.

i thought the surface of the cpu is metal though, and if not on the mobo, where should i do it, like where do i put it and stuff?
