Node Type Peer-Peer. How can I change that?

after looking at http://www.michna.com/kb/wxnet.htm, I think I need to change
the node type on my XPPro machine to something other than P-P. Maybe then
it'll be able to share files consistently with my XPHome machines (node type
= unknown).

But, I've never messed with the registry, and really don't want to create a
disaster.

Can someone offer some step by step procedures to to this?

Thanks!

1. Click Start/Run regedit ENTER

2. Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetBT\Parameters

3. Left click on 'Paramters' to highlight it. At the top of the window
click on Registry and select Export ... - give the file a name and save to a
place where it can be easily found.

4. Right click on Parameters and highlight New - select DWORD value - name
the value NodeType (one word) ENTER.

5. Double click on NodeType - select Decimal and enter a value of 1 for
b-node or 8 for h-node. Click OK, close registry editor, and reboot.

Thanks Doug-

I will try the procedure when I get home to my network. Currently I'm on a
job -site, and am wondering if making that change will affect the Internet
access that I have using the company provided static IP address. But, where
can I find out what b-node and h-node mean? or will it matter? And I assume
there's an Import function if I have to restore?

Thanks Again!

Changing node type 'should' not affect Internet access - but you need to get
rid of the 'unknown' node type for NetBIOS resolution - the different types
are described here:

This may be a better explanation:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;142309

To import the .reg file you saved, open regedit, click Registry and select
Import.

Just wanted to let you know that changing NodeType (or adding it in some
cases) to Broadcast (hex 1) fixed all problems on the home lan. Think I'll
experiment with other node types and browser settings.

Thanks for the help

I had a dream where i thought i was awake, I looked all around my room and everything looked exactly how it looked when i fell asleep... I looked over to my closet and between the clothes was a body, partially decaying. I tried to scream and no noise came out. What does this mean?
