I have a problem with connecting my notebook ( vaio + Xp,sp2) to network
with Workgroup model.

File Server Configuration Is as follows :
IP Address : 169.254.111.1 Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
Notebook Ip Address : 169.254.111.20 Subnet Mask 255.255.0.0
I can ping Server or workstations from Notebook by IP address but can't
ping them by computer names.
I disabled the firewall options and wireless network connection in my
notebook ,
but the problem is not solved.
I executed the net view command and this is some message after running
command:

Net view \\Server
System error 53 has occured , network path not found

Net view\\169.254.111.1
System error 5 has occured , acces is denied.

tracert 169.254.111.1
tracing route to 169.254.111.1 over a maximum of 30 hops

Any help is much appreciated.

thanks.

Now when you say you can ping them by their IP Address and cant ping
them by the machine name (also know as NetBIOS Name). To me this
sound as if you have a DNS problem. I would perform an nslookup off
of your current DNS server and try to reverse the IP to a machine
name.

Go into the tcp/ip properties and make sure Netbios is enabled
on the vaio.
