Yo. I have around $1500-$1600 to spend, before shipping/tax, on a new system. My 3-month old system is going to my bro, thus i need all new parts(monitor, mouse, KB, etc also). I plan to overclock if i desire more performance. I play games, do 3D modelling and multitask like a bitch. (ie Maya + Hammer and 6 IE windows)

Ive built many systems. Here is what i'm looking at currently:

Cpu Athlon 64 X2 3800

Mobo Asus A8N-SLI Platinum

Ram Corsair XMS 2GB 2-3-3-6

Gpu eVGA 7800GT

Psu Fortron Blue Storm 500W, or Antec NeoPower. I really like to wire my case, thus the removable cables is a big plus. I also want 2 PCI-X cables built in (aka SLI-Ready)

Optical Lite-ON DVDRW dual layer burner (bundled w/Nero, big plus)
DVD player/Faster CD burner combo drive. (i want to be able to copy dvds....)

Case CoolerMaster Cavelier (black[i have the silver one, love this case])

Monitor Viewsonic OptiQuest Q7B 17" LCD. love this, have it now.

Keyboard/mouse G5 laser gaming mouse, MS keyboard.

Operating system XP Pro

Again, $1600, can’t reuse anything, overclocking, multitasking, intensive graphics.

Thanx!

Are you getting two 7800GT right now or are you doing it later? If you are doing it later, then I would suggest you wait for some other new Nvidia GPU to come out as going SLi costs a lot of $$$ and usually gets some performance loss cuz the game doesn't like SLi. For the price of two 7800gt you might as well get a single 7800GTX.

Since you are getting eVGA, why not get the 7800GT + mobo combo for $380. That mobo isn't bad at all and saves you a few bucks.

Did you forget HDD or do you already have it?

forgot HD. seagate barracuda 7200.8 250GB sata150

what mobo w/that combo?

i plan for another 7800GT later, if needed. its good enough for the $$ now, and i may want to just slap another in later.

it's an eVGA NF4 SLi mobo. It OC's quite well, pushes 250 FSB without any tweaking. A good buy overall.

Again, two 7800GT costs $600 and performs slightly better than a 7800GTX at $470. So you decide if the extra $130 is worth it. Remember SLi is not welcome to all games.

If you are gonna OC you wanna look into some VX gold series RAM

Or simply use memory dividers to not OC the memory and take a minimal performance hit. Or OCZ Value VX that can usually hit some great speeds and has the price of Value RAM.

is the corsair xms 2-3-3-6 not good enough? i dont plan to have to overclock that, just the cpu (which in turn oc's the memory, i know) around .2GHz more.

I'm not a hardcore overclocker, so i still want to go with a company i can trust.
I also want a definitely good mobo, as i know asus makes, and i didnt even know evga made mobos. im spending $80 more for the premium mobo.
