What are you all passionate about? I'm sure there is a plethora of responses out there but I suspect many of us would say or write the same thing: we're passionate about games!

If you are and if you have the pleasure of working in game development then please lend a fellow fanatic a hand: how do I become a game developer? What qualifications would you recommend? Can I start to learn at home?

I've loved games since I was a kid [I'm in my late twenties now], I have a teriary education in Politics, am willing to learn and need to kick start this before my life passes me by and I regret not chasing the 'dream'.

Any help would be appreciated.

Keep on gamin' guys and gals!

Because I feel sorry for this thread with no replies I shall mention that I was briefly in college doing programming which I hated and am currently pondering what else I think I might like to try.

I hear ya. I went ahead and earned a degree in computer science / systems, but ended up focusing on the business track. Glad I didn't go artificial Inteligence. I knew going into it that I may not want to program. It was fun for a while, and suited me well. But I definately knew during my Senior year spent in the lab that programming wasn't going to be a fun job, not where I'd want to stay for long. No regrets for me as the knowledge and expereince has come in real handy. Kinda funny how I studied to be a software guy but now am nuts about the hardware end. But if you know early that daily programming isn't enjoyable, switching isn't such a bad idea. But who am I to talk; I graduated back in 1990, so everything has changed since then. Shoot back in computer classes in high school, I rememebr tests where we had to read punch cards.

My only regret is putting big money into my dream car a year after college instead of buying a cheap car and dumping it into Cisco stock. cha-ching $

They need people to write stories, do art, music and etc. So it isnt always programing.

Programming sucked and so did the people that took those classes. They either were complete social retards or they spent their time watching porn on a laptop in the back of the class.

Jeez, there's not a great deal of positivity here, fellas. But you have raised some interesting points, my interest would most likely be best served in the marketing/advertising/sales area rather than the core programming.

Nonetheless, I appreciate the responses.

It only took a 2week C++ summer camp and writing tic tac toe to make me hate programming, lol.

I know we are all getting stuck into the programming guys and gals out there but without them we would not have the games we do have.

That said, long live the geeks, nerds, prgramming experts etc, because after all of these responses there is no way in hell I am going into the programming side of things.

Reply to BomberBill

you might actually find out you like it alot man, you just gotta try it first ya know? i just couldnt sit there for so long staring at lines of code, didnt really do it for me i guess.

Phukface, I have the patience of a nat. I'm into the final product. Your advice is sound though, so I'll give it a go. Mate, I sent you an email from your website with take-out pics from a show we have her in Oz and the UK called 'the office'.

They reckon that the money is in porn sites. Lets all combine our meagre savings, build a porn site that is dedicated to hot chicks who play Pc, Xbox, Ps2 in sexy lingerie, the nude and bingo! We're all rich, we then own our own game studios, produce the games we want and the world is a better place! At least for us, that is - despite the moral outrage created - but I'm sure we can live with it while we drive our sportscars etc.

Reply to BomberBill

I already run a porn site with Wingding. It's not making us any money yet but we remain convinced that our site will yield results.

DHLUCKE - the life of a man and his porn site. Man, with GOD BLESS AMERICA written under your post a cynical muslim man or feminist would point to you and say: 'Yep, here is why America has gone to the dogs, their too busy owning porn sites, eating cheese burgers and playing games to give a [-peep-] anymore".

I think its hilarious that you own your own site. Capitalism and American Enetrepreneurialism are alive and well, I see.
