Hi, im considering buying a new computer and i was wondering which of these 2 AMD CPUs would be more worthwhile. I mostly use my computer for games, mp3z, and sometimes use matlab, although rarely do all 3 at the same time Other components i plan on buying are:
sounds like a good set up although I would get 2gig of ram...check out THG's 2gig of ram not overkill!!
if dual core is your thing I would got for a opteron 165 or 170...roughly the same price as a X2 3800 or a X2 4400 but a much better proc 170 oc'ed is the same as x2 4800 if not better!
single core go with a opteron 148 or 150, easily OC and stable...the 150 OC runs cooler and faster than a fx-57..if done right
but being as it is dual core is the future, I've just made the switch ( optey 165) and let me tell ya, you don't know what your missing....way better than single core
these optey's R socket 939's....and will work in your 939 board.
opterons arent as widely available as the x2 and sanDiego, and they seem as the they require too much tweaking for a home PC user like me What do u think is better out of x2 3800+ and the 4000+ sanDiego?
no tweaking unless you want too, go with the optey....and not that hard to find...newegg, tigerdirect, mwave...etc
trust me you won't reget it
had a amd 64 3000 venice.....nice for price, now i got a optey 165....whole new world bro...and only 10 to 20 bones more than the X2 3800 but its got more cahse. better core's...etc....you do the homework! you wont find much better bro
but if you want to stick with the 2 you where looking at go with the X2 3800, don't waste the extra bones on the 4400...samething different ghz which is only .2 i beleave, 4k is a good proc but 3800 cheaper again more bones for .2ghz
I got an Opteron 175 and they rock! Stock setup is painless and troublefree.
The Opterons are a better quality chip compared to the X2's, and to not buy one and get an X2 when the price is about the same is silly, Rabbit, tricks are for kids!
HereYe HereYe, anyone considering an X2, fuhget about it and get a real CPU, Opteron Rulez!, x2's are for fools! Seriously, once you go workstation class, you never go back!
The thing is you don't NEED dual core for gaming. You are playing games and not multitasking. Sounds like single core to me. Save some money and get a 3200+ or something. Games don't require that much CPU power and you said you don't use that math program much.
Also another question, do opteron 165s work on scoket 939 boards, such as the Asus A8N-E i mentioned above? Are there socket 939 boards that will run better with opterons compared to normal 939 boards?
Thanks man! I was wondering what the hoopla was about those opterons!who says this place is'nt helpful sometimes?!
Its been awhile since I've been here! thought omid ran off everybody! 8O good to see this is not the case!
