In general, do AMD processors consume more power than their Intel counter parts? Right now, an Intel CPU found in a typical system is a 3GHz Prescott single core. This compares to a 3200+ AMD 64. Which chip consumes more power?

Intel, hands down. If AMD used more power it would be AMD with the heating problem, not Intel the way it is today.
