I'll take a stab at this...

1. is it really nessary to do? No.

2. What will I gain from it? The rough equivalent of buying a higher processor only paying for the cheaper one

3. Does it improve FPS in games? Depends on the game, if a faster processor will improve your FPS then yes. Every computer has it's bottlenecks, typically it's not the processor when it comes to games.

4. Does it make the CPU go bad alot faster? Possibly, it's very easy to do it safely and probably not take any life off your hardware. But something else to understand is that with the rate technology is going, you're probably looking at buying a new computer (or serious upgrades) in 3 years anyways.
