Hello everyone.

This is my first post in the forumz here at Tomshardware.
I have been looking and can't decide on what to choose to
build my first computer.
I have some knowledge of where to mount everything, but I don't
know which parts will suffice in the performance I seek for my first computer.

I have a budget of $1300 which will not include speakers, mouse, keyboard, and monitor.

$1300 for the box. Also i would like the case to have a window on the side to display my killer system.
I know the best place to buy from, and that is where I will be purchasing all of the hardware; Newegg!!!
All help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much.

Is it safe to assume you want this to be a "killer" gaming rig, or will you use it for something else?

I will be using the computer for:

gaming
multimedia such as editing my digital photos
and possibly recording tv in the future.

I have been recommended the AMD X2 3800+ and I was thinking about getting Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 for my OS.

Any suggestion for which hardware to use?

As you are on the budget buy an Non SLI nforce 4 mobo like MSI K8N-Neo 4 Platinum, an X700 ATI video or x800GTO if you want a little more gaming power, Quality 400w power supply (Enermax, Antec, ETC) and the processor you listed and then run on board audio, buy sata hard drive WD is my preference, buy a quality case as well there is far less hassle, i like lian li they are expensive but good quality and most models have slideable mobo trays.

Good, but if he would prefer an nvidia graphics card I'd go with either the GeForce 6600 GT or the GeForce 7800 GT if the budget allows. As far as processor you might consider the Athlon X2 3800+ as you will do some multimedia video stuff you mentioned. If not, the San Diego Athlon 64 3200+ would suffice.

I think you might consider a slightly larger PSU in case you ever upgrade your video card or cpu in the future--I'd want at least a 480 Watt but remember to use a good brand name as suggested above. I'm at work now and don't yet have specifics but I'll work on it if I have the time.

BTW--MUST all parts come from newegg.com or is it possible you could use another cheaper site for some of the parts? Pricewatch.com is great once you learn how to avoid the cruddy vendors...pick a store with 4 stars or above.

Everything looks good...I'm not personally familiar with the brand PSU you are using but it looks good in the specs. Also you may already know this, but if not, your DVD burner supports DVD+R DVD+RW media ONLY, and not DVD-R or DVD-RW. All else looks great.

If you must have lightscribe, for my money I'd opt for a Lite-On or BenQ in lieu of HP. I just haven't found HP optical drives to be the most reliable. Just curious, but why do you need a separate DVD-Rom?

Sweet system. Go with WinXP Media Center. I have it on mine and it works great (essentially XP Pro). I have converted videos streaming to my XBox 360 flawlessly.
