I have just installed NT 4 to act as a PDC. I can not get client PC's to
connect. I get "No domain server was available to validate your password". I
understand this message but can not understand why when I'm trying to logon
using the administrator account ??. I have ensured that the client and the
server can see each other via pinging at the command prompt. What's going on
??.

regards

Martin

Just because you can ping doesn't mane the communication
is working correctly. Ping only verifies that an IP
packet will reach the destination and there's a machine
that wanted to respond.
When you logon as Administrator you must specify the local
machine, and not the domain to log onto. (The Domain has
an administrator account).
This error is quite common when NetBIOS is not bound to
TCP/IP (as implemented in NetBT), or if WINS is not
available or unknown to the clients.
Ideally you'll want to use WINS because it's much faster
than NetBT (NetBIOS).
WINS and NetBT (NetBIOS) is used to resolve workstation
and domain names from IP addresses and is required for
Windows NT domains to work and for clients to find
eachother. Configure your DHCP to identify the WINS
server and run WINS on any server.
