this is an interesting overview of printers, inks, and papers - not so
scientific, but lots of good information .

The following link is an evaluation of the I 960 but you can see Steves
reviews of several printers at his site. Very reliable information.

thanks for the links but the i960 doesn't look like an a3 printer.

the iphoto review confirms the neil slade philosphy that the i series are
better than pixma. the eight colour pixma can't do skin tones but the i9950
can. neil also says 8 colour systems are a waste. the iphoto review of the
i9950 seems to think the greens and reds are better for it. the pixma 8
colour can't get skin tones right. a six colour a3+ may be enough. i have
the i850 which is merely 4 and think its great. neil says if you can't
appreciate the difference don't go higher. however is the i6500 a 5pl or
1.8 pl as is the i850? I'm reading the steves digicam review of the i960
and will look for other reviews and report back.

no sign of an ip6500 review. steve seems to think there is a point to 8
colour inks. i suppose 8 punchy images have a place. Also pictures with a
wider colour gamut in the red orange and green spectrum. I would like to
know how it handles subtle colours or if they are biased towards high
saturation and contrast. Subtle skin colours are the real test.

A3 - you're in the UK. Is there an A3 model comparable to the I960? Check
with Canon UK. Do I recall that there is a model I965? The I960 is now
phased out and when they are sold out there will only be the next series
available. I had an Epson Stylus 900 that I THOUGHT produced fine color
prints. After struggling (finally successfully) to clear some minor head
clogs that left me with some banding, I got the Epson to print quite well.
I then followed Slade's advice, bought a canon I960 last month and have now
printed about 1,000 4x6 inch prints. Unbelievable improvement in print
quality!!! Also, very easy cartridges to refill as per Slades suggestions.

You can find some discussion on DPReview printer forum. The i6500 is
primarily an office graphics printer rather than photo. A bit like a
bigger i850 without the ability to do 2pl fine droplets to emulate PC
and PM.
