Hi Sergey,

the limit for NT4.0 Workstation and Server is 4GB (in any module configuration
that your hardware will support)

Normally, the usage is 2GB for user application space and 2GB for system/kernal
space - but this 'barrier' can be changed by registry settings. Be warned, you
need to reduce the memory below 1.8GB whilst you do the install, the additional
memory can be reinstated once NT4 is up and running.

Doesn't the 'barrier' change only work on the very expensive datacenter
version?

Windows NT Enterprise Server has a higher limit.

Hi all watching this thread.

I'm not overly familiar with the 'Enterprise' or 'Data Centre' variants of NT4.0
Server, so I will bow to the experience of those who work with those versions.

Perhaps sombody with the relevant experience could give us some definative
answers for these options?

Normal NT Server supports up to 4(?) CPU's (Workstation supports 2).
Enterprise supports up to 8. There wasn't a Datacenter NT. I was thinking
of Win2K. The link below mentions that versions up to 32 CPU's are
available from OEM's to work with special hardware. Enterprise is also the
one that supports up to 3G per application. I'm not certain if that means
NT can't access more than 4G or not. 4G is the limit of 32-bit addressing,
so going beyond that would probably require some form of bank switching
(remember EMS?) or special drivers and memory access support.
