I have an old machine I've been using for testing software installs (P150,
80mb RAM, 6.4GB hard drive). I had two partitions, both NTFS. I
deleted/formatted the system partition to FAT32, and installed 98SE. I want
to go back to NT4.0.
I run the setup from the three floppys, and then when it goes to the screen
where wou can work with the partitions, I deleted the system partition. I've
since decided that for my purposes, one partition is fine. The problem comes
when I try to delete the second partition. I get a STOP error
(IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), Address 801096A4 has base at 80100000 -
ntoskrnl.exe. This has happened no matter which order I try to delete
partitions.
I have succeeded in getting nt4 reinstalled to an NTFS partition, but at
boot, I then get a DOS window saying "setup -newuser", and get an
errorsaying that DOS and Windows cannot run on a 16-bit subsystem. It then
gives me the choice to continuse or ignore. Either button causes a reboot,
and a return to the same error. I've tried repairing with no success.
Can someone suggest a way out? I just want to flush the drive and start from
scratch, or at least, use a drive imaging program to return it to a pristine
state.

Use FDISK from a Windows 98 boot diskette to delete all
the partitions.
Allow Windows NT Setup to recreate them.

That's what I ended up doing. Thanks.
One other question though: Since it looks like my CD-ROM drive is not
functioning properly on this box, I'd like toset up an install over my
network from a share (also to learn how to do it as well). Some Googling
leads me to believe that I must create a disk using NT Server, which I don't
have. Is there a way to do this on an XP Pro box?
