Hi,

Currently I am running NT 4.0 domain on an old machine and
is now giving trouble. I am planning to replace the same
with newer hardware. I already have one BDC (B1) on my
network.

I am planning following:

- Install BDC name B2 on network
- Upgrade BDC name B1 as PDC
- Remove PDC name P1 from the network
- Upgrade BDC name B2 as PDC
- Rename machine name B2 as P1

Can I rename a domain controller? When I rename the domain
controller what all precautions I am looking for?

Thanks,

NT Admin

You can only have one PDC on a domain.
You may: promote the BDC (B1) to PDC.
Decomission P1 (the old PDC)
Install the new server as P1 then promote that to PDC and
demote the B1 back to BDC.
