Hi,

I have a DNS server running in NT 4.0 domain. I want to
get it transferred to another machine and put off the
currant machine, how do I do that?

Has any one done this? Any KB or White papers on this? Any
help is appreciated.

Thanks,
KT

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Can't you just copy the Windows NT DNS Zone file (txt)
from the NT Server to a newer 2000 Server or 2003 Server?

I've tried the 'Copy the Zone file' and it doesn't work (something in the
registry for the SN and ???). Anyway, here's what I've done.

Created a new Empty Zone on the second box. Use Notepad to copy and paste
the contents of the zone file, restart DNS (use Control panel of cmd net
start - not the DNS stop start thingy in the GUI, which is quite bogus.) Now
your new zone reloads the DNS cache is cleared.

I'm assuming these are large zone file otherwise why not just recreate?

Hope it helps...
