systems hangs after upgrade install

I tried doing a upgrade install on Windows NT 4 which did
not work and now the system boots to the blue screen
showing the build and amount of memory and just hangs. I
tried booting to the CD again and now the HD partitons are
showing they may be corrupt. It says they need to be
formatted. Is this a disk signature problem or am I
screwed ?
