RAID Questions

Hey, had some extra cash and was looking for some more performance. Was thinking about buying another Western Digital SATA2 16MB Cache 250GB HDD for $110, but will I see a noticeable difference using it? Like with gaming, loading, etc... The rest of my system is pretty decent:

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego w/ Thermalright XP-90C
ATI Radeon X850XT PE
DFI LanPart UT nF4 Ultra-D
Western Digital SATA2 16MB Cache 250GB HDD
Maxtor Diamondmax 9 IDE 160GB HDD
Western Digital 120GB IDE HDD inside a Vantec Nexstar 3 HDD Enclosure
Audigy 2 ZS Gamers Edition Sound Card
1GB (2x512) Mushkin Redline XP4000 DDR 500
Tagan 480Watt PSU "TG-480-U22"

Is it worth the $110 for another HDD for RAID0?

  1. You will definately get a performance boost in drive speed. I have two 74gig Raptors in a RAID0, and two of those WD 16mb drives in a RAID1 on an Asus A8r-MVP board using the ULI RAID chipset. I get around 110 MB avg sustained transfer on the Raptors, and around 60 MB avg sustained transfer on the WD's using nBench32.
