I cannot find any drivers of whatsoever or any documentation that could
verify that this controller is supported by Windows2000.

However, my guess is that it should be, as it is ISA legacy PnP hardware.

Am I right or there are drivers some ware (Adaptec's site has none)?

Hi Bubba,

The Adaptec 1540 and 1542 are ISA SCSI adapters, but they are NOT PnP, the
resources are configured by jumpers on the card. The only difference between a
1540 and 1542 is that the 1542 includes a Floppy Disk Drive adapter on the card
as well - so you may need to be looking for 1540 drivers, rather than 1542.

I'm not sure about Win2k, but in the NT4 days, support for the 3 or 4 familiar
Adaptec card families where included in the drivers supplied with the OS.

Calvin.

Well, it _worked_. But only once, to be precise. It seems that controller
cannot handle more than 16 MB RAM. When more, it gives errors like
"Timeout Failure during SCSI Inquiry Command" and does not recognize the
drive. Too bad, since I require at least 96 MB.

I guess I'll just have to buy new one... :(

Well, thanks anyway. :)

Hi Bubba,

Your problem with the Adaptec 1542 controller is ODD. I have machines here using
the 1522 on Win2k (with 512MB) and no problems whatsoever :-)

That does not sound right. A SCSI timeout failure can
be better attributed to a failure to terminate properly
than the amount of RAM installed in the computer. Check
for SCSI termination issues.
