Ok so I'm running a P4 2.53 Northwood Core B with 1 Gig of PC 2700 DDR on an ASUS P4S800D-X motherboard.

Up until today I've never overclocked anything before, so I entered the BIOS and set the CPU frequency to manual and slowly upped the frequency from 133 to 159 (at 160 the system wouldn't boot). This netted me a clock speed of 3.02 GHZ . Initial tests seem to indicate that the computer will run fine at this speed (although I need to do further burn in tests). The temperatures don't seem to get any higher than 38C under load. The VCORE voltage fluxes from 1.56 to 1.607 (which it did running at stock speeds).

My questions is other than watching my temps and ensuring the system is stable can I in any way damage my processor by running it a 3.02 GHZ?

Can damage occur from overclocking? Anything's possible, though if your temperatures are not too high, I wouldn't worry. Also, if you have the option in your BIOS to raise your CPU VCore, you might be able to hit a higher clock speed.

38C is it your mobo temp. or CPU temp? You are using stock cooling fan right? It looks like a very low temp to me.

Nah. 38C is nice... I would say a bad BIOS reading if it was a Prescott, but my 2.6 Northy pulls about the same temps being clocked from 2.6-->3.250.

Raising your Vcore an increment helps, not to mention your DIMM (RAM) voltage. However, you also need to consider your RAM may just be holding you back. Check your timings, as you may have to relax them a bit in order to achieve a higher clock.

i've my 2.4 northwood running at 3.0ghz for about 2 months now, and no problems!!! the only thing i needed was +5%Vcore (abit bd7 mobo)
upper your voltcore a bit, but DONT go above 1.7volts, then you might damage your processor, i would put the voltcore just about 1.65v, then you would hit the 3.2ghz i guess

here a cpu-d from my processor:

good luck overclocking!!!

Sometimes... really depends how much heat your stock HSF can dissipate. With most Intel stock coolers(prescott and above), I would probably not overclock.. unless you would have adequate airflow.. as in a ducted case, which would maximize cooling efficiency.

Tips on how to do this can be found here.
