do u think if i upgraded my cpu which runs at 2.8GHz to one that runs at 3.2 i would get better preformance. my freind told me i wouldnt get any bettier frame rates or anything and that it would be a waste of money. here are my specs to my comp. if that helps any.
cpu- intel pentium 4 2.8 GHz
graphics- Nvidia 6800 256mb
hard drive- 160gb at 7200 rpm
memory- 1gb DDR2 at 400mhz
sound- audigy 4

if i dont need a cpu then i was thinkin of getting the 7800 BFG http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143042

what do u guys think thanx alot.

i would have to say that upgrading either your cpu OR gfx card would be a waste of money.

your current system would likly be hitting over 60 fps in most if not all current games so your not going to see much diffrence from either of these upgrades.

you would see more of an improvement upgrading the GPU rather than the CPU in those games.

but be warned COD2 and FEAR are GPU intensive even i dont really get an average of 60fps in fear but COD2 seems to be ok.

based from your spec. you havent indecated your motherboard. assuming you have a lousy board try to upgrade to a much better one, it will boost overall performance. If your seriously into games consider going Athlon64(s939) since A64 out performs pentium in games and run much cooler.

sometimes adding or upgrading to a much faster RAM will give a big impact in performance.
No, it won't do any difference in upgrading to faster RAM. It that is the case there is something else wrong with the system.

But adding memory might give better performance. But in this case he already has 1GB of RAM which is enough.

Not true. A better graphics card will do much for his system, a CPU won't.

Upgrading the CPU won't give you any notable performance gain in games.

Upgrading the Graphics card will give you much performance increase.

so what do u think of this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143042

I would pick a card from eVGA or XFX. They are cheaper and if you want CoD2 you can buy it on the side and still get away cheaper.
