I had working DOS aplication on Windows NT 4 (Pentium 400Mhz, 64MB RAM). I
have changed computer (Celeron 2.6Ghz, 512MB RAM). I use the same profile,
the same autoexec.nt and config.nt files but DOS palication run slowly. I
recognize when I have this aplication in background it works fine, it is
slow only when I run it on foreground. What I have to set in WinNT run DOS
aplication fine on foreground?

Hi Vladimir,
There is known (and fixable) problem with the NT4 NTVDM running on processors
with a clock speed exceeding 2.0GHz - I suspect you have just found it :-)
Have a look here ( http://support.microsoft.com/?id=320694 ) for detailed info.
A patch is available to correct the problem, but it isn't available for general
download. You will have to contact Microsoft in your country to request it be
sent to you. Providing you make NO OTHER requests than to ask for the patch,
Microsoft will not charge you for this.

Thank you Calvin,
I have found this KB840987 on MS website (it security bulletin MS04-032) but
there is update only for NT4 server. What do you think, it is possible to
use this with success?

for a solution to these so called ' Server Only' security patches. It really
makes me angry when I see how far Microsoft are prepared to go in this grubby
little campaign to attempt to kill off NT4.

Thanks a lot Calvin. I have done as had been described on that page but I
have had 2 problems:
1. This patch is for English version of NT4 and I have Czech, so there is
language incompatibility.
2. Well, I have apllied this patch to my "English" server but there have not
been new version of NTVDM as is published in KB840987.
So I gonna call to Microsoft :-)

Hi Vladimir,
Glad Microsoft were willing to help you.
I'm waiting to see how long it is before they imitate 'Pontious Pilate' are
'wash their hands of the whole affair' - ie: I'm soon expecting that we will
soon simply get greeted with "NT4 is no longer supported, upgrade" - ARRGGGGHHHH !!!

Hi Calvin,
You right, it was very hard to get this hotfix from Microsoft. Firt answer
was: "NT4 workstation is no longer supported, bla, bla bla ..." and second
was: "it is 10 years old system, bla bla bla ...". But I use your
recomendation and told him I need only patch for the problem described on
topic id 320694 and then he sent me mail with link to page with password
protected patches and password for open it. So I have hotfixes for English
and Czech version NT4 wrks. Thanks to you.
.... and my problem is resolved now.
