Who care about OCing and video card in a CPU forum.. move away!

6800GT has 2.0ns memory.
6800Ultra has 1.6ns memory.

2.0ns memory is specified to run at maximum 500MHz (1000MHz).
1.6ns memory is specified to run at maximum 625MHz (1250MHz).

So you will probably not be able to OC an 6800GT into a 6800Ultra.

I think both these cards are poor choices since the price tag is pretty high for the performance.

Maybe in Sweden, but they're cheap in the U.S.

I was refering to the US. Who cares about Swedish prices at this forum? :p

A 6800GS beats the 6800GT in price/performance.

A X850XT (and several other moddable cards) beats the 6800Ultra in price/performance.

Preformance in what? HL2?

Maybe if he had bought an x850 over a year ago, I'd agree. However you have newer games hitting the shelves ulitilzing SM 3.0. I wouldnt touch the X800 line at this point...unless he doesnt want AOE3, UT2007...and god knows how many other games that are coming.

A 6800GS is a fine card. Although its 2.0ns, its also GDDRe, which can push past Ultra levels...not just 500mhz. BFG used the GT's with 2.0, and they came factory overclocked. I dont think he'll have a problem hitting Ultra speeds (lord knows Kevin didnt with his =)

Performance in games in general.

The visual difference between SM 2.0 and 3.0 is very small. And you can run AOE3 with a non SM3.0 card without any trouble.

it's not whether you can run AOE3 or not. AOE3 w/out SM3.0 doesn't look as good as run w/ SM3.0.

6800GT can push to 6800ultra
i use leadtek 6800GT OCed to 525Mhz core // 1.25Ghz GDDR3 effective

Not when you can get the 6800GT for $210.

I don't know about AOE3 but we ran a blind test with FarCry and none could tell the difference between SM3.0 and SM2.0.

The Leadtek 6800GT uses more expensive 1.6ns DDR3, not 2.0ns DDR3 as most manufacturers. So the Leadtek is more expensive, about $285 I think.

1.25GHz is what the 1.6ns can run according to the specifications.
