Anyone else have trouble playing off line mode? I am taking my computer to a friends house and he doesnt have the net, i have updated everything and can play fine in online mode, it even lets me play half life 1 in offline mode but it tells me there was an error connecting for half life 2, i have a legal version i just wanna play it. im sure this is the wrong place, but i am going tommorow and would appreciate any help.

Are you testing this at your house? such as log into steam, get updates, exit steam, physically unplug net connection and start up steam again.
And it will only let you play hl1 and not 2?

The solution to playing HL2 in offline mode is very simple.

Right clcik your firewall in the systems tray and select to BLOCK all internet traffic.

Double clisk your HL2 desktop ICON Steam will try to start and will time out.

You are then offered the option to play in offline mode.

SIMPLE>!!

I always start HL2 then go back to the desktop and block all internet traffic to my P.C No use in playing HL2 for a few hours with Steam having full access to your computer when you cannot see what it is doing, or worse what some hacker is doing through the Steam network.

For everyone who wants to play offline for hl2, i figured out a way if your having problems. I know this may sound kind of stupid, but if your completely offline, and no one else can hack into your computer online, just turn off the firewall. The game works perfectly without it.
