Cable access

I've got a pc I put together that works fine until I plug the ehternet cable into the network card. Then it freezes up. I know the network card works as I had used it before. The cable is coming out of a Motorola cable modem.

Try specifying an IP address for the NIC. goto start - control panel - network connection - rt-click your lan connection - select tcp/ip - properties - manually enter ip, and enter 192.168.0.1. You don't need anything else entered.
