I'm a computer modder and enthusiast like most of us here, and used to be a very active member of CaseModGod.com until it blew up a few months back. After that happened, I started creating my own site from scratch... Everything on it I hand coded including all the back end code and SQL for the forums, PM system, rig gallery etc... No premade packages were used at all on this site.
It is definately a work in progress, but I'm trying to fish for opinions and ideas for bettering the site.
Please visit, play around a bit and give me some feedback from the perspective of a brand new user... First impressions, likes/dislikes... let me have it. I'm looking to make this site kick ass both aesthetically and content-wise.
(Note: the "Reviews" and "Guides" sections are still under construction and nothing is listed there yet incase you see an empty page are are like WTF.)
I like the site, especially carrying the navigation bar to the forum. It's clean metallic design theme is great. What forum software are you using?
I just moved my site(http://overvolt.com/) from a free hosting service with no scripts allowed to Elixant hosting with great support. The nameserver change should happen within a couple of days. Stick around I'm gonna need lots of help with my site.
Feel free to email or PM with any questions about your site.. I may be able to help. I'm pretty handy with HTML, PHP, MySQL and a bit of CSS.
Better not make that offer, I'll keep you busy. Just kidding, however my knowledge isn't much beyond Frontpage. Matter of fact, I'm not sure how to set up the server to upload my site. The techs at Elixant will help though. Anybody want a great host then go with them. I lurked on their forums before buying their service and the techs there are great.
You won't believe the price, just over $3 mo. with my promo code (-25%)when you pay for a year ($37.10). They are about to go up on their prices though. You get 50mb storage, 15 Gb/mo., and 15 mysql databases. Not bad right? And they are installing ruby on rails as i type.
* not trying to sell, just letting everyone know about a good deal*

Little skimpy on the storage space 50MB but for 3 bucks a month thats still not too horrible. Perfect for a smallish homepage.
I actually host my site at home, on a server I built and setup using Apache. That way I have unlimited storage space, and as much bandwidth as my poor cable modem can handle
If you get really bored one day and want to learn something, find an old crappy rig laying around your house. Load Win2K on it or Linux, and find a site that shows you how to set up your own apache web server. It'll keep you entertained for a long time trust me.
