CDRW life time? how long

how long is it an CDRW life time?
I have an external SCSI CDR/RW Yamaha type CRW2200SX series from 2003, is it already run out of its life time?? (nomally used)

the problem is I install it for my G4-400 with toast titanium
some of the CD that burned with it, had become a webdings file!!!!
some of my files are ruined...

what's went wrong???

my files contain freehand and page maker files
other file with extension tiff nor psd can't be opened
i already tried to open them with my PC-intel it doesn't work...

please help me...

This greatly varies on the media. Some media has been known to last less than 8 years! Even the expensive name brand stuff.

Since these CDs were burned in 2003, I don't think it's a media degregation issue. More likely it's a bad burning issue or possibly a format issue. Of course, if there's any scratches that can be the issue too. CDRW discs are more suseptable to scratches than CD-Rs.

Can you see the files on your PC machine? Are the CDRW's in good condition?
