I have been looking for hours, please help. I have
managed to set up a printer using a network cable. But I
could sure use some directions on how to set up my home
using a printer that only has a USB port!
USB printers are supported on both Windows 2000 and 2003 TS.
If it's a HP printer, it might have created a port on your local
client that's called DOT4. If that's the case, you have to make a
registry change on your client:
302361 - Printers That Use Ports That Do Not Begin With COM, LPT,
or USB Are Not Redirected in a Remote Desktop or Terminal Services
Session
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=302361
If the printer still does not autocreate after this, your next
step is to check the EventLog on the Terminal Server. Most likely,
you will find an Event that says that the printer could not be
redirected because the driver was not found on the server. You can
solve this by mapping the local printer driver name to a native
driver on the server, by creating a custom ntprintsubs.inf file.
Note that multi-functional printers don't work very well on TS,
and most likely loose all but their printing functionality.

I have the same problem - I have tried all these suggestions and still can't
see a local USB printer. Users have Canon i250; Canon i350 and HP Laserjet
3015.
I didn't think it would be so hard...

What did you map them to? A HP LaserJet 4 should work, at least so
that you see the printer.

You could try to map it to a HP LaserJet 4, but I doubt if it will
work. LJ1000 is *documented* not to work on TS.
