CE.NET Thin Client License Expired

Hi,

I need help with a terminal server connection license problem with an HP Thin Client running Windows CE .NET 4.20.

The temporary ts client license of the Windows CE has expired, but the windows 2000 license server isn't able to release a new
license.

I had the same problem with some Macintosh and Widows XP clients and I resolved it deleting some files or registry keys on the
client machines...

Well... how can I do the same on the windows ce client?
Is there a directory or file that I should delete?
If it's a problem with the registry, what software should I use to edit the machine registry on the thin client?

Thank you in advance.

Hello Francesco

In the F2 Terminal Properties, look for these 2 areas. On the General Tab at
the bottom there is a tab Restore to Factory Default, try that and also in
the Control panel there should be an application icon and look for a tab to
release MS License.

Those are on our Thin Clients I am not familair with the HP but as I have
worked with many different Taiwanese OEMs and they are usually very similar
to each other in set up. So I would imagine that HP has similar ways to
reset the license.

Also in the BIOS there maybe a setting for clearing the Registry, we have
put that in our devices so I am sure others have it too. That would clean
out the license too.

Allocated TS licenses are stored on the server when connecting from a thin
client, not on the thin client itself

That maybe true but there is a registry setting that is marked on the local
client in regards to Temporary licenses, we have found in our numerous
experience with Thin CLient devices that the Thin Client needs to release
the temporary license that it holds, this is the same on a PC too, except on
a PC you can easily run regedit and remove the license key, on a CE Thin
Client one needs to set the machine back to factory default or if it has a
tab to reset MS License to do that otherwise you will get the error message
Mr. Tomasi is expierencing.
