I need to buy a new mobo, but I'm not sure about processor compatability. I've got a P4 2.8C Northwood 800mhz FSB CPU. The best replacement for my current mobo seems to be the Asus P4S800D-X, which is listed on Newegg as being compatable with the P4 Prescott and Celeron. This is probably a stupid question, but can I just put the Northwood on this board? It's the correct socket, and all the other specifications match my current (and apparently burned out) Asus P4S800D-E, but I don't want to buy if my CPU won't work. Any input is appreciated.

You can find the answer here. The answer is yes, that board supports all P4 northwood chips

I wouldn't do that if I were you, it will just kill your CPU in a long run.

Thanks endyen for finding that page, I was looking for hours with no luck. If Asus says the CPU is supported though, why would it kill the CPU, Shorty? Is there something else I should be considering?

Not really sure, but Asus scrw their design for the P4S800 board, IIRC. I don't have the time to research for p4s800 problem on google, but I'm sure that you have ..

For the 2.8C your best choice would be the standard Abit IS7 (no suffixes). Start searching for it!
