Ok I am looking at this video card The X800 GTO and Im liking what I see. I have a few questions though. I have heard this card is "locked". What does "locked" mean? And i was looking on Toms' "Dont throw out your old X800 yet" Article. And it says you can overclock. http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/11/28/don/page14.html

Im running an Emachines t6520
AMD athalon 64
3400+
1600 Mghz Front Bus
2.3 gigahertz Processor
1 GIG of DDR ram
and a 300 watt power supply.

Ok I had an Idea to Over clock it so I can get more performace out of my Better games i play. Half Life 2, *all source mods*, battlefield 2 and expansion pack, COD 2, and Im thinking of getting F.E.A.R or Quake 4.

Can this card still be overclocked? And How big of a Powesupply should I have to Run the games at MAX overclock.

*EDIT* Im currently using an ATI radeon X200 XPRESS i run about 10 fps on lowest settings on HL2

Well my x800gto is clocked at 510 memory and 510 gpu, it will go higher but im on stock cooling so dont want to push it.

It runs BF2 all high 1024*1280 with 4xAA and 4xAF at a steady 40-50 FPS

Dont know performance at stock never tried

Bought the card to unlock the 4 extra pipes as it was a connect3d but I got one of the newer batch that has had the pipes cut. Still Im happy with it at the bargin price.

that kinda helped, But still, Which PS should I get, watt wise. My bf2..... I dont know How to check, it runs smooth on LOW settings though :)

And then I want to kinda max out the OC how should i cool it too?

Do you run that on stock cooling?

@ zeke if you want to upgrade the cooling get the arctic cooling Silencer as the best option or a zalman vf-700 as another option.

Psu I would say a quality supply of around 400w or up may not need it but better to be safe than sorry.

Yeah, I have partially decided. Im either going to get a X800 XT or XL (which ever is cheaper) or a GTO, and run it on my computer with a 300 Watt power supply, Because my powersupply is so small i cant find a new one to fit in that

Somebody tell me which is better the XT or the XL. LOL.
and tell me why/whynot that would work on my computer

hmmmmmmmm I wonder why. My X200 runs CS:S and DOD:S at a constant 12 fps when I had a 5200fx and it ran at like 32 FPS

Power supplies. When you said yours was so "small" did you mean physically or wattage wise? *It's been a long day already*

Like I've always said. Zippy, Antec, Thermaltake, PC&P, acutally bought a 500watt Rosewill supply for a friend, about 6 months ago. Not bad for a tight budget.

I've heard decent things about X-connect, and Vantec...but cant back those up with personal experience. An X800XT is recommended to have a 300watt PSU, not to mention running on a clean line (you should do that for almost all GPU's) I agree, a 400watt or greater should be installed.

Perhaps something like this...

You could get a 420 with dual 12v+ provided the supply has decent amperage *spell check that* ...thats the biggest factor.

X800 GTOs are pipe-locked at 12 pipelines, but they can be overclocked.

X800 GTO2's are pipe-unlocked, they can be modded from 12 to 16 pipelines with a BIOS update. They can also be overclocked. Hard to find tho.

X800 GTO 16's have 16 pipes enabled from the factory. They also can be overclocked. Also hard to find.

X800 XL's all have 16 pipelines enabled, and X800 XT's have 16 pipelines, but are clocked much higher.

If you have a PCI express board, you should also consider the 7800 GT, which isn't much more pricewise but is a FAR superior gaming card to any in the X800 series.

Oh Cleave, I did consider it intill i choked on the pricetag of a gt for 300 when i read it had about the same fps as the X800
