Cancelling unknown alerts?

For some time now, I have been receiving a daily news alert from
SOMEWHERE! I had thought it might be from MSN, USA Today, or even
Yahoo! as those are sites that I frequent. I thought that I might
have signed up in a fit of insanity. Checked all those sites and I
don't have any alerts set from them. So... are there any standard
"cancel" messages that I can send back when I get one to stop this
crazy unwanted alert from coming my way? When I hit reply it goes to
"1-110-410-000" and I do get a reply that my command wasn't understood
and offers legitimate commands like "STO ***" for stock info, "NEW
***" for news reports. Apparently there are some valid commands, but
I've yet to hit the magic "STOP sending me this bulls**t!" command.

Any help out there in cell land??

But that's a good clue. STO and NEW are just a couple of the ON-DEMAND
request codes for Info Alerts at Cingular's My Wireless Window aka
www.infospace.com - now apparently called "Cingular MEdia Net" (same
userid/password). The main access is via the My Account pulldown at
www.cingular.com but www.mywirelesswindow.com still works. It's
included with a Cingular plan but AFAIK it does have to be registered
once with a userid and password. You may have registered in order to
get access to the WAP browser and WAP email on the phone but I wouldn't
take bets that it couldn't be leftover from a previous owner of your
phone number either. In any case I assume CS (1-866-246-4852) can reset
the userid/password to get you on if you don't have it. Once logged on,
go to Info Alerts and I bet you'll see those notices you're receiving
are active--just deselect them.

YES!! That was it! Logged on to "mywirelesswindow.com" and... I DID have an
alert there. Its out of there now!

YES!! That was it! Logged on to "mywirelesswindow.com" and... I DID have an
alert there. Its out of there now!
