So Basically I have around $500 to upgrade, I already have 1 gig of ram, and just want a decent computer that will last me a couple gaming years. What I currently have in mind are...

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 1GHz FSB Socket 939 $222
connect3D 3038 Radeon X800GTO 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 $179

Both From Newegg.
I need suggestions for a motherboard.
Also if you have any suggestions for a different processor or graphics card that might be better. I can't really go over $550.

if your going to go a couple years between upgrades you might want to look at a socket 754 pci express dfi board for $80 from newegg. a 7800GT vid card $299 at newegg and a 3400 socket 754 DTR on pricewatch.com from zipzoomfly for $153 (free shipping) this puts you at about $532 before shipping. You will get more mileage out of the vid card than the processor you have chosen and then you can skip socket 939 completly in exchange for the next generation boards comming out this year when they are cheap in 2007 with bugs worked out. Some will disagree with me but I do this myself and skip generations and have no problems and save money.

You picked a socket 939 processor. The motherboard uses a socket 754, zipzoomfly is selling a 3400 for $153 with free shipping. It is clocked higher than the one you selected, is the mobile version (run cooler) and has 1 meg of l2 cache. You can go to www.pricewatch.com and find it under the cpu section advertised by zipzoomfly. later you can add another 512 ram withouth penalty and go to 1.5 gigs of ram if needed since the motherboard has 3 slots. You can compare on toms cpu charts as well and it should be comparable if not faster than the 939 you selected.
