Hey, right now I have a 9800 Pro 128mb video card and been looking to upgrade for a little time now. While the 9800 Pro is a good card there is a lot better, and it hit me I probably need to upgrade when playing Black and White 2, certain areas of the land are 100% black. May be a driver error but still lol, ive been thinking about upgrading regardless.
Looking to spend around max $300 Canadian (About $260 US). I am also very willing to OC/Unlock Pipelines for a recommended card if there will be a good increase in performance. ATI or Nvidia don't prefer either but if the card has good overclocking potential it would be a nice bonus. Any recommendations?

X800 XT is par to the best, but in canadian dollars it's probably still $350 or so.

An X800 GTO is in your ballpark but not really unlockable.

Look around for the X800 GTO2 which is unlockable, or the X800 GTO16 which comes with 16 pipes enabled from the factory.

But if you can't find em, the regular X800 GTO is still a pretty good card, wayy better than your 9800 PRO.

Yup your in canada so you get quite nice ATI prices so a gto should do well, and if you can go for a regualr x800pro Sapphire, they are kind of illegally overclocked and are usually cheaper that the others.

9 times out of 10 US prices (after exchange rate) are better than Candian prices on ATi hardware. Being local makes little difference, the US has economies of scale and the ability to cover distribution and marketing costs quickly. Also we have to get French on all our boxes so that adds 2cents.

I'd say that adds several hundred dollars to the expense, due the the fact that they did it the 'french way'(Ruins the whole point of having an ati). I must be mixing up the fact that nVidia is more expensive there than in the us.

And to any french people who are not better than us, no hard feelings (this is kind of pointless eh?)

ha, LOL @ the $.02 french comment. Of course, here in the USA we now need spanish on everything, so that must add a penny too.
que? lol
yea I would get the x800 GTO2 which is a card I have been looking into for a long while, which I am considering buying if I upgrade my cpu and mobo to socket 939 but theres one problem. The gto2 is pci xpress so if I dont upgrade I can't get it :(

We get all the freaky languages on ours, like hebrew and arabic, even chinese sometimes. Did you know that if you buy from china you can get 250W psu's in 350W boxes so you can cheat people? What is this world coming to?

I just got a 6800GS, by XFX from zipzoomfly for $219.00 american. Its stock performance is very close to a 6800gt, and mine overclocked to 400mhz GPU
1100mhz ram, also I was able to unlock the last 4 pixel pipes and the 6th vertex pipe, which with the overclocking took it to the same specs as a 6800 ultra. Scored over 5400 in 3dmark05. Runs every thing on high even without the unlock and overclock
